Welcome to piazzahem-onclab

The hematology oncology lab is a translational research laboratory of the Department of Medicine, Hematology and Clinical Immunology Branch at the University of Padova, Italy.  It is located inside the Venetian Institute of Molecular Medicine (www.vimm.it), the operative building of the Foundation for Advanced Biomedical Research (www.fondbiomed.it).  The research conducted in the hem-onc lab focuses on the mechanisms regulating normal blood cell development (hematopoiesis) and malignant transformation to tumor cells.  By making use of genetic, biochemical, cellular, clinical specimens and animal models the ultimate goals of unraveling the causes of malignant blood tumors and of explaining the mechanisms of hematopoiesis are pursued. We believe that investigating at the same time the normal physiology of hematopoiesis and malignant blood cell biology could represent a powerful strategy to add more value to the translational research in this area of biomedicine.

Now, when you want to knockout your favourite gene to check if it is important in hematopoiesis you should chose carefully the way you will knock it out.  Are you going to use the Vav1-CRE or the Mx1-CRE system? Will you be more sophisticated and delete the gene with inducible CRE-LoxP...
